Seattle Sounders FC returned to a hero’s welcome Sunday, thanks to its loyal and diehard supporters who greeted the team at the Airport.
Following a disappointing result in the MLS Cup the night before in Toronto, the club flew back and touched down shortly before 4 p.m. in Seattle.
Waiting to greet the club were media and dozens who had staked out spots just outside of the Arrivals building at King County International Airport/Boeing Field. Many of the Rave-Green and Sounder-Blue-clad fans had waited hours for the players’ return.
One by one, the Sounders emerged from the Arrivals building and were immediately showered with cheers. The supporters sang and chanted, waving flags and holding up signs to indicate that no matter what, each of them subscribed to the popular motto, “Sounders ‘Til I Die.”
Staff for Seattle Sounders FC and King County International Airport/Boeing Field worked cooperatively to plan for a gathering of fans upon the club’s return. Although they had hoped for a different outcome, the supporters who showed up Sunday didn’t disappoint.
From all of us here at KCIA, congratulations to Sounders FC and its supporters on another memorable season.
