King County’s new Director of Aviation comes to us with 40 years of experience in aviation management, having held executive-level positions with airports in Salt Lake City, Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena, Long Beach, and El Dorado County, California, as well as with the American Association of Airport Executives.
In a way, he’s come full circle from his first position at the Auburn Municipal Airport in 1976.
Among the first challenges Randy will take on here is a much-needed update of the Airport Master Plan, a roadmap for the airport’s long-term viability over the next 15 to 20 years. He’s also looking for ways to bring airport businesses closer together to tell the story of this historic and vitally important economic engine.
Randy will also be on the constant lookout for ways to introduce young people in our area to fascinating careers in aviation. “There is nothing I am more passionate about than helping young people in the aviation industry,” he says. As an adjunct professor at Salt Lake City’s Westminster College, and for nearly 30 years in aviation management at California State University Los Angeles, where he still flies down to teach over several weekends a year, Randy is always looking for opportunities to “widen the on-ramp” for youth.
